WHEN SAGE CAN HELP
A change in health rises new questions about what should happen next.
Health concerns persist despite evaluation, without clear answers or direction.
A Healthcare decision calls for a broader view of the options, their implications and whether another option may be valuable.
Changing needs calls for evaluating care options and determining what additional support or resources may be needed.
Multiple specialists, medications and recommendations need to be understood within the broader healthcare picture.
A medical appointment calls for an advocate to help ensure important questions and concerns are being addressed.
Where to Begin
-
A complimentary 30-minute call offers an opportunity to discuss your circumstances and explore how Sage may support your needs.
-
A comprehensive consultation develops a fuller understanding of the relevant healthcare history, concerns, questions and priorities.
-
Sage brings together healthcare information and the perspectives of those involved, making connections that may otherwise be missed. From there, sage addresses immediate priorities, strengthens communication across providers and support systems, and identifies additional resources where helpful.
ABOUT
Janna Oxman, JD
Founder & Principal
Sage Advisory grew from a professional foundation in legal practice and healthcare-related settings, shaped through working with individuals and families facing complex health circumstances. Healthcare situations can become layered and difficult to navigate, particularly when conditions are evolving or the path forward is unclear. Uncertainty can feel overwhelming, and structured, steady guidance brings clarity and direction.
My background spans legal practice, healthcare leadership, and patient advocacy. I practiced law with a focus on medical malpractice and healthcare risk across hospital, insurance, and private practice. I later served in a senior healthcare leadership role, deepening my understanding of how medical systems function, communicate, and support patients and families. I currently serve as a lay advisor on the Quality of Care Committee of the Board at Charles E. Smith Life Communities, a senior living and care campus in Rockville, Maryland serving adults across multiple levels of care.
Sage Advisory reflects the convergence of these experiences: structured analysis grounded in healthcare literacy, paired with steady, human-centered guidance during times of complexity, uncertainty, and transition.
Frequently Asked Questions
-
The first step is a 30-minute complimentary conversation, designed to understand the nature of the situation at hand and determine whether working together would be a helpful next step. From there, Sage Advisory will recommend an appropriate path forward, which may include a comprehensive consultation, support focused on a specific issue, or guidance toward other resources as needed.
-
Sage Advisory often works with family members or other individuals who are supporting a parent or loved one through healthcare matters or transitions in living and care arrangements. Each situation is different, and Sage Advisory’s role is shaped by the circumstances, including how decisions are made and whether any legal authority is in place. In some cases, an adult child engages Sage Advisory to assist with coordination and communication while the parent remains the primary decision-maker. In other situations, a designated representative may have formal authority to act on the individual’s behalf. When legal authority is required, such as a Medical Durable Power of Attorney or Power of Attorney, Sage Advisory works within those parameters and will request appropriate documentation as needed.
-
Sage Advisory works at the direction of the client and may involve family members, caregivers, or other participants when appropriate and with the client’s consent. Participation is structured to support coordination and clarity, while maintaining clear roles and respect for the client relationship.
-
Insurance questions and administrative issues are often part of a client’s broader healthcare landscape. Sage Advisory can support clients by helping organize relevant information, gather supporting documentation, and prepare questions or materials to assist clients in their interactions with insurers, providers, or other third-party professionals. When more specialized insurance billing or claims support is needed, Sage Advisory can help clients identify and connect with appropriate resources or services, and coordinate alongside those professionals as part of the broader advisory support.
-
With client’s written authorization for each provider, Sage Advisory may communicate directly with healthcare providers to support clarity, coordination, and continuity of care. When helpful, Sage Advisory may provide a brief introductory letter to a client’s provider explaining our role and relationship to client, helping to establish context and facilitate effective communication.
-
Sage Advisory treats all client information with care and discretion and uses it solely for the purpose of providing services. When sensitive or protected health information is involved, Sage Advisory uses appropriate secure communication methods and obtains required client authorizations before sharing information.
-
Sage Advisory aims to respond by the next business day. When a matter is time-sensitive, clients are encouraged to indicate urgency so expectations can be aligned.
-
Availability outside of standard business hours is discussed on a case-by-case basis and arranged in advance, based on the nature of the request and the client’s needs
-
Sage Advisory accepts payment by check, Zelle, Apple Pay, and major credit cards. Payments made by credit card are subject to a 3% processing fee, which will be disclosed at the time of billing. Clients are welcome to choose the payment method that is most convenient for them.
-
Sage Advisory’s support can adapt as circumstances change, whether that involves shifting focus, expanding or narrowing the scope of support, or pausing and returning as needed.
-
Sage Advisory supports clients by helping them research and understand available options, organize relevant information, prepare for conversations, and coordinate next steps related to living arrangements and care support services. Decisions and matters related to contracts or financial arrangements remain the responsibility of client.
-
Sage Advisory may help clients identify questions and organize information in preparation for their discussions with their legal representative. Sage Advisory does not draft or provide legal advice regarding any legal documents.
